The word “hosting” does not describe one service, but a number of services which provide different functions to a domain. Having a site and e-mails, for instance, are two independent services though in the general case they come together, so most of the people consider them as one single service. In reality, every single domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that defines where the site for the domain name is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the e-mails for the domain. As an example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a website or send an email, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will be directed to the correct server. The idea behind using separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you may have your website hosted by one provider and the emails by another.
Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting
The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each and every shared web hosting that we offer you, allows you to view, modify and set up A and MX records for each domain or subdomain in your account. Through the DNS Records section, you will be able to see a list of all hosts within the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update won't take you more than a couple of mouse clicks. Creating new records is as easy if, as an example, you wish to use the e-mail services of another provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two. You can also set the priority for every MX record by setting different latency. In other words, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it'll contact the next one. Using our sophisticated tool, you will be able to control the records of your domain names and subdomains easily even if you have no previous experience with such matters.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will enable you to view the A and MX records for each of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with full control of all records and to enable you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
